'Sketches of Romsey' competition
Rum’s Eg new exhibition ‘Sketches of Romsey’ has now opened for the duration of Romsey Festival. Filling the first and second floors of the Bell Street gallery the exhibition features a diverse collection of work in all media, inspired by the people and places of Romsey town and the surrounding area. Submissions include artwork by both professional and amateur artists.

As part of the 'Sketches of Romsey' community project, adults and children of all ages have been participating in Rum’s Eg Workshops based in their new Leckford Art Studio and many were seen out and about sketching throughout the town in June.

At a private viewing of the new exhibition last Tuesday evening Rum’s Eg founding director Siriol Sherlock was delighted to announce the winners, and prizes were presented by the Mayor of Romsey Councillor Peter Hurst who attended with his wife. Representatives of Romsey Decorative & Fine Art Society who donated £600 towards the project were also present.

1st Prize, a cheque for £100, sponsored by Test Valley Arts Foundation, went to Ruth Ann Lewis for her "Ducks in the Park”. Other works were also highly commended by the judges who found it very difficult to choose one winner from such a varied collection of artwork.

"It is always worrying to have a prize when it comes to art as it is so much about personal taste - but the standard of work on show was excellent and hugely varied - a real credit to the talent of local artists. In addition it was really good to be working at both ends of the Test Valley Borough - Rums Eg are an excellent organisation, an important partner." said Yinnon Ezra

Children’s 'Sketches of Romsey' Winners

Winners selected from the Children's exhibition who each received £30.00 were:
Jack Needs - Age Group 3-7
Poppy Hoyle - Age Group 8-11
Joao Teixeira - Age Group 12-17

Open exhibition may become an annual event

"We are so pleased with the high standard of work submitted for this, our first open entry exhibition, and that we hope to make such exhibitions a regular feature at Rum's Eg, possibly once a year." said Siriol
Such exhibitions will provide an opportunity to all Hampshire artists to have their work exhibited in this professional high street art and craft gallery which is run by Hampshire Art & Craft Community Interest Company. All the adults work is for sale and it will remain on show throughout the Festival until 27th July.
