Community sewing group gets Test Valley Arts grant
Enham Tapestry
The Test Valley Arts Foundation has made an award of £150 to a dedicated group of skilled needlewomen who use their creative talent for the benefit of the community.
The Weyhill Sewing Group meets every fortnight at Weyhill Fairground Hall. Originally, the members got together in 2000 to work on a decorative tapestry for the new community hall built at the Fairground. Finishing that project in 2004, the group taught themselves patchwork and made individual cushion covers for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice at Andover War Memorial Hospital. Now they plan to switch back to tapestry to create special cushions for a new reception area at Enham.
Designs for these cushions have been commissioned from tapestry specialists Jacksons of Hebdon Bridge Ltd and the grant from Test Valley Arts will help towards the cost of materials and the hall hire for the duration of the project.
On receiving a cheque for £150 from Cllr Pat West, patron of Test Valley Arts, the Sewing Group’s leader Jacque Osborne said “We can’t wait to get started. It should be great fun and it is always nice to do something for the community”.
