Saturday 30th June 2007

Test Valley Arts Foundation awarded £250 in support of ‘Let’s Celebrate’, a concert to be staged at ‘the Lights’ theatre on 30th June 2007 in memory of highly regarded contributors to the Andover cultural scene. The Foundation’s Development Officer Michael Widén commented: “This revival of the popular ‘Past and Present’ tradition as a musical tribute to ex Cricklade College Head of Music Mark Ray and student Russell Mabey will make a significant contribution towards cultural activity in Test Valley.”
Roslyne Penny, one of the musicians taking part, writes: “I am delighted to be involved in the memorial concert for Mark Ray and Russell Mabey, but not to be reminded that it was 32 years ago since Karenna Caun and myself were doing our A-Levels at Cricklade College, the first intake of students. Since then there have been many musicians of note to come through the music department, staff and students alike. The concert involves some of these and I'm sure it will be a varied programme showing their many talents. It is a worthy opportunity for musicians to get together and reminisce. This tribute to Mark Ray, who was an excellent musician and is missed by everyone that knew him, is hopefully done with his 'special attention' to detail in mind. I like to think that Mark would enjoy the efforts of everyone involved. Many thanks to Test Valley Arts Foundation for their donation towards the ever-mounting costs of putting on a show, and especially to Lawrence Holden for organising the event. I hope the evening will be enjoyed by all."
And Lawrence Holden, ex Cricklade Head of Performing and Visual Arts, added: “May both Mark and Russell look down affectionately on the concert on 30th June.”
Tickets for the concert are available from ‘the Lights’ box office by phoning 01264 368368 - www.thelights.org.uk
