Moving

'MOVING', an exhibition of prints, photographs and books by Frances Fox will take place at 'The Gallery', Weyhill Fairground, near Andover from 1st to 7th October 2007. The exhibition will be open 10am - 5pm, on Thursday 4th October till 7pm.
In 2006 Test Valley Arts Foundation awarded Beryl Frances Pratley (Frances Fox) an Open Access Award of £400 to assist with an exploratory journey around all the houses in which she had lived and to produce the resulting artworks to a professional standard.
Test Valley artist Frances Fox describes herself as 'restless'. Arriving in the Test Valley was the latest of a series of moves from the north to the south of England and 'MOVING', explores the background to her family's meanderings. "The award was a big confidence-booster", she said, "and it motivated me to finish an exploration I started a while ago. In the process, I thought hard about why my family has moved so often, while others stay put for a lifetime."
The show consists of digital and hand-made prints, photo-montages, and artist's books, exploring life in 50s suburbia, student life in London, family life in outer London, and a rural 'idyll' in Oxfordshire, before the final decision to come to Hampshire. It is a show apparently without fashionable angst, but it bears closer examination for its hints of what 'moving' involved for a family with ambitions.
All the pieces in the show are linked to each other, and are not for sale, but Frances Fox welcomes commissions for gift and commemorative books, some examples of which will be on show. Also in the gallery will be a range of artist's books by Wiltshire print-maker Murray Marshall, whom Frances met while they were both studying at Winchester School of Art.
