In presenting these concerts the society are providing a valuable cultural opportunity of which the local and regional community can be proud. The award will enable the society to hire both professional orchestras and professional soloists, and help towards the costs of music and venue hire.
Sarah Morgan - St Mary Bourne
3 April 2007 - £250
Sarah’s proposal is to set up a daytime singing group in Andover. Singing has proven benefits for mental, physical and emotional health. Singing in a group or choir also helps to develop a sense of social inclusion, and promotes a feeling of well-being. Although Andover has an excellent community choir which holds evening sessions, there are many people who because of domestic commitments, age, disability etc, find it difficult to attend evening events. Sarah’s aim is to set up a singing group which will meet during the day at ‘The Lights’ in Andover, to enable the maximum number of people to participate in music making. The purpose of the grant is to fund three free ‘taster’ sessions designed to encourage people to come and ‘have a go’ and to promote interest, to pay for initial publicity and to provide sufficient funding during the early stages of the project to enable the choir to be professionally run, while keeping fees for unwaged or low income participants to a minimum.
